The THIRD ANNUAL DETROIT WOMEN OF COLOR INTERNATIONAL FILM
FESTIVAL showcases inter-generational films and videos by
African American, Continental African, Asian, Caribbean, Latino, Middle Eastern and Native American women film and video makers.
We present exceptional films and videos that span racial identity, sexuality,
science-fiction, relationships, politics, history, empowerment, healing, hip hop, cultural traditions, spirituality and love.

The film festival will open with an invitation only reception for the film industry, business, creative, and
grassroots community. The reception will have a silent art auction of women of color artists in Metro
Detroit. The beautiful poetry of Ber-Henda Williams. The amazing work of Zeina Washington,
Sabrina Nelson, Lottie Spady, Halima Cassiels,Nisa Joorabchi, India Sullivan and much
more will be available.
The films begin at 7:30 p.m. There will be amazing films from all over the world. LA filmmaker
Vanessa Gray (Perfection) will make a special appearrance.
Detroit filmmaker Alicia Smythe examines the life of award winning rock star and activist J. Nadir
Omowale in Nadir Distorted Soul followed by a special
performance by Nadir!
Some artists defy classification. Detroit’s revolutionary soul man, Nadir, rebels against
it.
Join us for the DWC, Inc. workshops featuring some of the most powerful women of
color in the Michigan film industry. Award winning veteran screen and Broadway actor, filmmaker,
and teacher Lonette Mckee will give the tools that you need to
get into the film industry that only a veteran actor can share. Film is one of the fastest growing industries in Michigan.
Marshalle Montgomery filmmaker and business woman will show you how your business
can benefit and connect to the film industry. Michigan Women in Film and Television president Serenity
Sherie Boston does an excellent workshop on screen writing.

the hottest new Detroit filmmakers. Award winning youth filmmaker Tanisha Kuykendall will showcases the Afro-Academic
Cultural Technological Scientific Olympics winning promotional video on the Children’s Center
of Michigan, Ryan Meyers is premiering her film Chello Mello. Filmmaker and screenwriter Danielle Eliska Lyle premieres her amazing film that takes us
into the underground world of master grafiti artists Sintex and Fel'le.
